IMPORTANT CHINESE MING DYNASTY JADE STANDING RECUMBENT HORSE STATUE CARVING. PALE GREENISH-WHITE STONE.

BROWN AND RUSSET INCLUSIONS AND VEINS.

SIZE: 13 CM WIDE, 9 CM HIGH, 5 CM THICK.

Note:

From the Neolithic to the Qing dynasties animal figures are almost permanent subject for jade carving. Varieties of animal forms were incorporated in to the carvings. Dragon, phoenix, tiger, bear, deer, horse, elephants, oxen, goats and fish were common amongst them. The techniques of representation, from reflecting the characteristics and habits of animals to pictorial carvings of complete animals and their endowment as a symbol of good luck, carved into simple to elaborate and from the shallow to the profound. Most were carved from squared cylindrical jade with emphasis on realism and varieties of postures.
